Stuffed animals always seem to be an easy go-to gift for children and my daughter already has a pile developing in one of the corners of her room. Although these toys are soft and cuddly, there are some safety concerns that should be considered if purchasing a stuffed animal for a young child. Luckily, Spotlight Baby addresses those concerns and produces high quality and safe products that also stimulate young minds.

Spotlightbaby sent me an adorable zebra bamboo buddy to review and the first thing I noticed was how soft it was. Of course, one of my safety concerns is what kind of materials are used to make the bamboo buddy. The bamboo buddy is made from 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton with 2% Lycra in the backing to enhance elasticity. It is wonderful to know that the naturally soft and non-toxic bamboo fibers will be safe against my daughter’s skin or even in her mouth. The bamboo buddy also doesn’t have any buttons or other small pieces that may become choking hazards.
I had planned to set the bamboo buddy aside for baby #2 since it can be used as a safe alternative to a teether. It also has really neat hands, feet, and mane. As you can see in the picture below, they are twisted and form little loops. These unique features are great for sensory stimulation and I think perfect for exploring little hands. Unfortunately, my daughter has established that this stuffed animal is her bedtime buddy and I don’t think she will be willing to part with it anytime soon. I guess little sister will have to get the lion bamboo buddy instead.
My daughter hasn’t really decided on favorites, so I was quite surprised that she finds this one for nap time. Since she can’t tell me exactly why she favors this one for sleepy time, I will offer you my best guesses.
- Its super soft
- The neck is small, so her arm can fit around it
- Its body is cushy, like a pillow, not overstuffed
The other thing that I love about this particular stuffed animal is that it is machine washable. In fact, it should get softer and fluffier after each time it is washed & dried. I don’t know how many of the stuffed animals I see that you can only surface clean. When you can only surface clean a stuffed animal, the fill could easily remain dirty and promote bacteria growth. That would be one of the last things I would want my child to put next to their face and breathe in.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with the bamboo buddy since the materials are non-toxic and easy to keep clean. Spotlightbaby also makes a Paci buddy that is created from the same eco friendly and organic materials, but can hold any pacifier that has a ring. I personally love the idea of their squeez ease, which remind me of fingerless gloves, but for babies. The squeez ease prevents baby from scratching their face or pulling their hair, but with the unique cushion design, it also promotes sensory development and can even calm the baby as they squeeze on it. My daughter would throw a fit anytime we tried to put the little no-scratch mittens on her and the squeez ease would have been a perfect solution.
