First off, I have a confession…I have poor eating habits. There, isn’t that the first step? Admitting I have a problem? With that said, I’m also clueless how to effectively change these habits and I really don’t like trying new foods. I have been pretty good with my daughter as I don’t want her develop my habits, but I also realize that soon she will be able to understand the poor choices I make and imitate them. So, where do I start?
For me, I need more fresh produce in my diet and this seemed like a simple and inexpensive place to start. The next problem was choices, so instead of really making a solid choice, I decide to get a delivery of a variety of local, organic, produce every other week. This way, I will be able to try new things without the burden of trying to figure out if the turnip is a good turnip or not.
This week I received my first box and it was loaded with stuff I have never cooked, let alone eaten before. From turnips to sorrel, these items made me thankful for Google. I am nervous and excited to start exploring new and healthier foods. I hope you’ll enjoy following along as I introduce these items to my family and of course any tips or recipes would be greatly appreciated!
I am using a service local to my area called Abundant Harvest Organics, which is a California farm-share delivery service. If you are looking for something similar near you, I would search for either farm-share delivery service or CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). You would be surprised what is available to you. If you can’t find any info, check out your local farmer’s market this season and ask the local farmers.
