~I received a Hugglable Melodies Plush & App for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
We’ve had a new friend over at our house for a few weeks now that has been having lots of fun playing with the elves, Ernie and Cookie Monster. His name is Poindexter and he’s this adorable plushie frog from Huggable Melodies.
Poindexter is one of Huggable Melodies “Huggables” characters. Like most children who feel a little different than others, Poindexter is self conscious. He has blue feet, red knees and a diddle on his face unlike other frogs and he uses his differences to teach children about the challenges of being picked on (or bullied) through his Story/Song App ‘Picked-on Poindexter‘.
The story is about how he gets picked on in the lunch room and bullied by a few of the other students. Through the story Poindexter sings songs that show children how he feels, like Diff’rent and Don’t Fit In. Thankfully Poindexter meets an unexpected friend at the end of the story, just as he becomes a new friend for children who take him home.
Judah hasn’t yet registered when kids are mean to him or point out differences, but I am sure that eventually it will come into his awareness. It’s nice that there are Huggable Melodies story Apps (and adorable snugly friends) to give them a bit of understanding about how it feels (whether to relate or for empathy). It is something most of our children will face in their lifetime, especially at school and I love that Huggable Melodies shares these stories on a level for younger children to understand and be able to interact with.
There are two other Plush friends: Sniffly Sandborn (the friendly dog) who is there to comfort children in times of illness with loving songs to help them feel better and Drowsey Drysdale (the sleepy sheep) with songs that put those drowsy eyes to rest. Drowsey is also brand new to Huggable Melodies, but he’ll be there soon!
Since Poindexter is such a great storyteller, he’s been to many of Judah’s “circle times” at home telling his Elves and favorite friends stories about being nice. I think Poindexter or either of his friends would make a great gift for the holidays!
