Well it’s back to school time and while the kids are away this mom will play! I figured hey, why should the kids to be the ones to get all of the new stuff: new clothes, new backpack, new shoes and the list goes on! I figured it’s time I get a “NEW ROOM”! What better time than now? The kids are out of my way, well… except for my homeschooler, but he has writing sentences time that keeps him pretty occupied and of course my little girl who just turned 1, but there is always NAP TIME!
Boy oh Boy was it time for my bedroom to get a makeover! I didn’t realize how bad my bedroom looked until I started taking pictures of my before and during process!
I told you it was bad! I just can’t believe what we get use to as the years go by. It literally has been years since I painted and reconsidered any decorations in my bedroom. It was nice picking out new and lively colors for our bedroom from My Wonderful Walls. It got us motivated for a whole room makeover; not just one wall make over! My husband picked out the new colors and I just love them! They look great with our furniture, the wood floors and bedding!
For our main wall color my husband picked out Valspars Light Brown and Valspars Ultra White for the Tiki Curls. All four walls are painted in the Light Brown color and it just makes our bedroom look so nice and comfortable. They’re very relaxing colors that are not BAM in your face like the Martini Green Apple color was! We used the My Wonderful Walls Tiki Curl Stencil and painting them with the Ultra White color; which was the perfect touch. It gives it the WOW that I was looking for without overwhelming our bedroom when you first walk in.
I have not finished painting yet so I will post the finished results when we’re done! I am taking my time and giving a nice amount of time in between coats to let them dry well. Plus, I didn’t paint over the past weekend and I spent the time with my kids since school started this week.
My Wonderful Walls instructions:
- Once you have removed pictures/decorations, wipe walls down to remove any dust.
- Tape off ceiling and any areas you don’t want paint to get onto.
- Hopefully by now you have your paint colors picked out.
- Peel the My Wonderful Walls Stencil from the backing that it comes with.
- Place onto wall and begin to paint.
- Once dry peel from wall and apply stencil to next area on the wall (repeat until wall is completely covered with design).
“Paint a little (or a lot) of poetic Polynesian décor onto your walls! When you use our tiki curl pattern wall stencils, you can align the pattern stencils vertically or horizontally and you can use one color throughout or use a variety of surfside shades. Powerful enough to stand alone, our tiki curl pattern wall stencils can be the only visual vignette on your walls or you can pair them with any number or our surf wall decals for a more comprehensive display. With our tiki curl wall stencils, you can decorate by day and dream of tribal drums by night. All of our tiki curl wall décor stencils are self-adhesive and require zero additional (and potentially harmful) spray adhesive on our end. Just peel and stick! Each pattern piece is 7″w x 9.2″h and each stencil sheet is approximately 2’w x 3’h.”
A few pointers for you to go by from my own experience:
- Use a small size foam roller to paint. Don’t press to hard while painting. This prevents bleeding. Trust me on this one. I know it’s hard to not press down when you see a spot that needs to get coated, but really try to refrain from pressing down on the roller super hard.
- It may take 2-3 coats of paint to cover but it’s worth it for that nice crisp edge.
The instructions that come along with your stencil are super easy to understand so don’t worry! Plus I don’t have a lot of patience when it comes to certain things and waiting for paint to dry is one of them, but it really didn’t take that long! It’s such a small area and some of mine were semi dry. I was still able to peel and re-stick without messing up or smearing any surrounding paint. Not once did I get aggravated or lose my temper and that is saying something!
I should have my completed project done for you to see by next weekend. I can’t wait to show you the final results! In the mean time go and check out My Wonderful Walls stencils! They have a wonderful variety of patterns for you to choose from. I used the Tiki Curl Stencil but they also have Diamondback Pattern, Fleur De Lis Pattern, Clover Pattern and much more!
Purchase: You can purchase your own My Wonderful Walls Stencil for $27.99.
