~I received a review copy of Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleased for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
What would the holidays be without video games? Most children over the age of 5 are hoping for the hottest new games on the market and Moshi Monsters, a hugely popular international franchise, had just released their newest game Katsuma Unleashed last month for Nintendo DS & 3DS.
Dr. Strangeglove has kidnapped Elder Furi and plans to force him to reveal the power of Moshi Picchu! You’ll need to rescue him and save the day!
It’s not going to be easy though! On the way there is a whole army of Robot Moshlings to defeat, backed up by some of C.L.O.N.C.’s elite bosses too. Plus you’ll need to rescue the other Moshi Monsters and hunt down all the lost Coin Pieces. Not to mention a whole bunch of Moshlings to collect! So what are you waiting for, let the fur fly!
Katsuma Unleashed is rated E for Everyone, but is targeted for kids over 6, as is most Moshi Monsters games. However, teens and older gamers can have a lot of fun with it because it has a very old school feel to it with modern graphics and the ability to switch between 2D and 3D modes (if available on your DS).
There are 6 worlds to explore and lots of challenges. Although they’re a little more simple for younger players, it doesn’t take away from the fun! You can unlock superpowers, exclusive codes for virtual content, save your Moshi mates, find hidden hero areas and battle through levels and bosses. There are also multiple mini-games to play that allow you to unlock exclusive abilities! This helps get through different challenging areas.
If you are new to Moshi Monsters, it was originally created as a virtual game online where kids can adopt their own monster and take care of it. They can solve games, earn rewards and buy things for their monsters. As a a multi-player game, they could also meet other Moshi Monster owners and play with kids all over the world! The wonderful thing is that Moshi Monsters has education at it’s heart and through the puzzles and games children learn math, vocabulary, logic and many other skills.
I really loved how there were multiple ways to complete levels, it works on the split screen and has a lot of fun music. It’s an easy game to pick up and would make a perfect gift for young kids and tweens!
