Life has happened to me for the last few weeks. Between being emotional over my eldest son’s 16th birthday, my husband’s Grandmother passing and my youngest getting a cold with a cough that refuses to leave – I’ve been spent. It is one of those times where there is so much going on and you really, really need some time to catch your breath but it isn’t there because there is always something that needs to be done. I really needed some girl time, some time to laugh and forget about everything for just a little while. It didn’t seem like that was going to happen, but my angel friend and her mom came by for some “girl time” late in the afternoon and I got to finally just laugh at it all.
Clydette’s Mom watches NickMom on NickJr at night, but I’m pretty new to it. They were telling me all about the show and I was filling them in on the new Instant Mom! Since the show airs on Sunday’s at 10:00pm EST, we just pulled it up on the computer to watch some reruns.
I just hooked up my laptop via HDMI to the T.V. and hung out with the ladies. It’s really funny having both Clydette and her mom because I get to hear funny stories about how Clydette used to kick her and they both get going back and forth about who did what to whom.
My tot goes to the Special Early Education Center with Clydette’s daughter and they are definitely a pair! And since Clydette and her daughter live with her Mom, we all have to deal with the insanity of these two! They may look adorable but sometimes they are way too much to handle and drive us all crazy.
So this was our little bit of time out of our crazy worlds to run away from them. Ha! For me, having a teen and a tot has kind of stuck me in the middle of the ever growing independence of tot (5) and the desire for freedom, dating and driving of the teen (16). For those two, well… living in a 3 generational house must have its moments!
It’s really nice to have a show at night just for moms. An excuse to mix up a mocktail (or cocktail) and relax for a bit. If “life happens” you can always know that once the kids are asleep you can forget about it and laugh for awhile, especially if you have good friends to be with you.
Speaking of good friends, I was given permission to tell you this hilarious story about how Clydette almost became an Instant Mom.
One day my friend had wound up really sick and wandered into the hospital thinking it had to do with her diabetes medicine. Little did she know that after a few tests the doctor was going to come in and tell her she was 7 months pregnant. In fact, when he did come in to tell her she told him to leave and get someone who spoke English! Even though she could understand him perfectly fine, she seriously thought her doctor had lost his mind.
You see, Clydette spent the majority of those seven months watching one of those “I didn’t know I was pregnant” shows yelling at the T.V. about how crazy those people must be to not know they are pregnant! Now she was one of those women and only had within 3 months to prepare.
Though for a little girl as brave and outspoken as hers, I don’t know if there is any preparing for that!
Instant Mom is really hilarious. Coming from a family with a younger Step-Mother (that is my older sisters age) and my Father who already had older children (us!), it is like looking at the story from her perspective.
Instant Mom is about a former party girl Stephanie (Tia Mowry-Hardrict) who marries Charlie (Michael Boatman), an older dad with three kids. She then becomes an “instant mom” and realizes it is a bit tougher than she thought. With a lot of humor, Stephanie traverses the fine line between being a friend and being a responsible parent.
The episodes on Instant Mom are slapstick humor, but behind it all there are lessons to take at heart. Just as when we can laugh later about insane situations with our kids, but deep down we know we’ve learned something. We really like the show. It’s nice to have a spot for Moms at night when we can finally relax. So whether you are worn out from your day, want to have some fun with your girlfriends or just having a “life happened to me” moment – you can switch over to Nick Mom at night for some #MotherFunny moments.
Make sure to check out the schedule to see when it airs in your location. Every Sunday there is a new episode, but they run reruns every night in case you miss it. To learn more about Nick Mom check out the Facebook Page and/or @NickMom on Twitter! You can follow along with the new show Instant Mom via @InstantMomTV as well!
Many thanks to my dear friends for coming over and spending time with me.
