~I received a Bommerscheim Buddies for the purpose of review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
Growing up I had this stuffed cat that I would take everywhere. He was the most realistic looking, adorable kitten with green marble looking eyes. But as days, weeks, months and years went by that little cat became matted and dirtier than anything. There was no way to wash it without it falling apart, so one day I had to just let him go.
This story is probably familiar, whether your child has a beloved stuffy, blanket or favorite doll, eventually they are beyond washing. When tot was little he had a favorite Elmo for awhile, but he kept spitting up all over him and the more he was washed the more his eyes disappeared until he didn’t have anymore eyes! One family figured out how to get around this problem in order to hold on to their favorite stuffies for years and years – the Bommerscheim’s. Back in the early 1960’s their aunt had created a cuddly little rabbit pet that had outer covers that could be washed. This way the actual plush didn’t get ruined and they could last for generations.
I was given the opportunity to review a Bommerscheim Buddy and of course chose the one with the Grey Construction Zone cover, but I also had gotten a Gray Fleece cover for when/if he needed to be washed. You can actually customize the Buddy with your child’s name, date or text as well, which would be great for gifting!
Judah quickly fell in love with his Buddy, he named her Rebecca Rabbit after one of his favorite characters on Peppa Pig. She has gotten a special place on his bed next to his other ‘friends’ and his favorite thing is to change the covers. He pretends they are her clothes and can do it all by himself. Since there aren’t any hook and loops or fasteners, it’s really easy for him to tuck it in and velcro on his own.
To change the covers, all you have to do is undo the velcro, pull out the inner plush and then tuck it into the new one! The cute thing about the velcro is that it folds into feet and a little tail.
If your child is more into blankets and you have the same problem with them getting ruined in the wash, they also provide cuddly blankets that have the same flannel/fleece designs as the Buddies and are washable!
I believe what the Bommerscheim family has created is not only beautiful, but ingenious. To share that tradition with the world and offer the love they had for them with all of our children, is something special. These cuddly Bommerscheim Buddies are also made in America, in Indiana actually! And purchasing Made in America products during the Holidays is a great way to help strengthen our economy.
