When you are poor you come up with some really cheap recipes. Some of them aren’t so great but this is one I absolutely love! I call it “The Anything With Cream of Mushroom Recipe” because you can use practically any meat (no not Fish!) and it’s going to taste great. For my demonstration I am going to use pork chops but you can follow the exact same recipe and use chicken, pork steaks or steaks or hamburger (never tried it but I’m sure it works!). This recipe is cheap cheap cheap because you can use whatever is in your freezer (not Fish!) and one can of Cream of Mushroom, that’s like .60cents!
What You Need:
- Meat (NOT FISH!)
- Can of Cream of Mushroom
- Oil (Olive oil, Canola oil, Vegetable Oil…)
- Baking Dish
- Pepper, Salt, some tasty spices (I’m going to use my all time favorite A little bit of Milk (enough to refill a can of Cream of Mushroom)
Estimated Time: 1 hour maybe (I forgot to keep track!)
Get Your Meat
First pre-heat your oven to 350′ F.
Now… see here, I have my Season Salt, Pepper and Garlic Powder. These I sprinkle generously on the pork chops on both sides.
I put 2 tablespoons of oil into the skillet and then arrange the pork chops inside. Cooking them on med-high just to brown both sides evenly. While they are browning I put the Cream of Mushroom Soup into a bowl and then using the empty can, I fill it with Milk and add that to the bowl. I mix the Milk and the Soup until it’s as creamy as I’m going to get it.
After the pork chops are nicely browned on both sides I place them into an ungreased baking dish. Then I pour the Milk & Cream of Mushroom Soup mix over the pork chops. This doesn’t look very good but trust me, it’s going to taste GREAT. Yum. I bake it in the oven for about 45min, or until the pork chops are cooked. They should be super tender too! Again, YUM.
With some mashed potatoes and some brocolli so the entire dish isn’t completely fattening, it is ready to be served! Another cheap easy dinner you can make with anything!…. well not fish.
Also, a few notes. If you are making this dish with chicken. I highly advise you to make some cheap 15 min white rich and then dump the Cream of Mushroom soup into the cooked rice and mix it (serving it on the side or with a piece of chicken on top). Then you’ll have Chicken & Rice and it is SO GOOD, especially with all the fatty juices from the chicken in the soup mix. You can cook this in your skillet with pork steaks/pork chops (I don’t recommend chicken), if you have a big enough skillet. Just be sure to make sure the meat is cooked thoroughly and that you brown it first.
I’m really hungry now, great.
