Last week I talked about what Small Business Saturday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, created by American Express! Today I want to share with you the benefits of “Shop Small” and how that impacts our communities.
Small Businesses are the backbone of our communities. They are ran by our neighbors, our friends, our relatives and peers. They support local charities, events and our schools. They share our concerns about our towns/cities from the environment to the local news. The more the small businesses in our local communities thrive, the more our neighborhoods do as well. I’m sure you have read it on every newspaper, magazine and even heard it in political speeches, but they are one of the most essential parts of economic growth in America.
If it weren’t for the small businesses in our communities I couldn’t imagine where all of our young adults would even find work. There are so many open doors when it comes to local shops that really invest in our neighborhoods. In some small towns, like the one I was raised in, the majority of the community was local small businesses! Could you imagine if no one set up shop? Where would people have found jobs? Who would have supported the schools and charities, worked on the broken cars to get people to work, offered breakfast to the men going to work at 4am on a Saturday, gave kids something sweet in their otherwise mundane afternoons or offered the magic of cinema?
Our local small businesses believe in our communities and on Saturday November 24th, it is time we show how much we believe in them.
Here are some small things I do to support our local small businesses.
- I purchase coffee from a local cafe’.
- Grab lunch from small local diners.
- Take my kids to small gift/toy shops.
- Pick up donuts from a local donut shop on Sat. mornings.
- Purchase Fruits & Vegetables from Farmers Markets.
- Home DIY products from local Hardware stores.
- Donate & Shop at local Children’s Thrift Shops.
There are so many little ways you can make a big impact in your community and have fun doing it!
What are some ways that you Shop Small?
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of American Express. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
