My beautiful niece didn’t have a very good beginning to her life. She was born into a toxic environment, pushed into the foster care system before she was 1 years old and then gracefully adopted by my parents. When The Blooming: An Adoption Story was shared with me the other day, I knew that I had to pass the story along to all of you. This book does more than weave a beautifully illustrated tale of adoption through flowers, it also gives back to agencies working with children who will (or have) experienced foster care or adoption. This post is for her.
The Blooming was written by Katie Orbrecht who was an adopted child and who hopes to one day be an adoptive mother. She knows intimately the many difficult questions that aren’t easily answered for adoptive children. Her story shares the journey of a small daisy whose parents had decided to place him in the care of another family when they could not protect him from the winter’s harsh blight. The loving metaphors offer up kind and honest conversation between caregivers and the children who are often trying to rationalize their adoptions and feelings of abandonment.
There is no better place to be the caretaker of Katie Orbrecht’s story than Swell Forever, a company that has sought to help the many thousands of children in the U.S. Foster Care System find comfort and security through their Forever Blankets and whose founders are a host family for Safe Families For Children that provides care to children whose families are facing crisis.
If you do not personally know someone who could benefit from The Blooming: An Adoption Story, consider one of the other products offered by Swell Forever. A portion of the proceeds from their Forever Blankets and Apparel goes towards helping the adoption fund. They also carry such beautiful Forever Birds, one of which matches a donation Sunshine bird to families coming to terms with the unimaginable loss of a child.
I’m honored to share such an amazing company and story with you on behalf of all the little daisies waiting to bloom in the world. Learn more at Swell Forever, share their sunshine by Liking them on Facebook and/or Following @SwellForever on Twitter.
