I had been given the opportunity to experience Cirque du Soleil live in Las Vegas many years ago. There is nothing in the world like the beauty of Cirque du Soleil and I was blessed to have been right up front, playing witness as they captured our hearts and brought the audience into realm of deeper imagining. Though there are many people that haven’t been able to see Cirque du Soleil live and I believe Worlds Away is the one film that honestly brings their majestic art home.
I had read a few reviews that had said that Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away didn’t have a plot, but was inexplicably beautiful. I don’t quite agree with this. There may not be a plot that most films adhere to; you aren’t going to find your typical story. It is more like going to watch a ballet. There is a story, but where the lack of a script may be the music and dancing take you. You follow a young woman (Erica Linz) that goes to visit the circus and becomes entranced by The Aerialist (Igor Zaripov). They fall through our world into the world of Cirque du Soleil and try to find one another. It is the story we all have inside of ourselves, the one where we long to find the love of our lives.
Check out a behind the scenes clip from Worlds Away!
It features various different Cirque du Soleil performances such as:
- “Viva Elvis”
- “Criss Angel Believe”
It was heavily marketed in theaters for 3D due to the fact that it was produced by James Cameron, who used his Fusion 3D camera system, the same one that was used to create Avatar. You are actually submerged INTO the world of Cirque du Soleil and I heard it is one of the most incredible films to witness in 3D.
Two of my favorite scenes happen to be love scenes. One where there is another woman holding a letter and looking for her lost love, just as the young woman is and While My Guitar Gently Weeps is playing. It almost breaks your heart to watch her dance, reaching out into nothing and in many ways mirroring the young woman searching for her Aerialist.
Then there is the last scene. It sweeps you off your feet.
It is just as lovely to sit back in the comfort of home and watch the artistry that is Cirque du Soleil, especially with the joy of seeing your children in awe over every performance. We may not all be able to afford to take our whole families to see the astounding acrobatics live, but Worlds Away doesn’t disappoint. In many ways it is even more alluring because you can see views that would never have been possible otherwise.
If you have ever had the desire to see a Cirque du Soleil show, don’t miss out on the opportunity to own one. Even for the visual effects, it is a movie you will pull out multiple times just to try and grasp every detail as it is impossible to glimpse everything in one visit.
