|Crazy scary Cicada|
You know… these things scare the pants off me. I do not like these things and now they are rising up, swarming my house. I can’t even go outside because they are sticking themselves to our screen doors. Their big buggy eyes watching me everywhere. Eek.
Did you know that they’re not Locusts? I always thought they were Locusts only to find that Locusts are in the Grasshopper family. Grasshopper looking Locusts are not scary even though they are apparently apocalyptic and severely damage crops every year.
|Not so scary Locust|
If a swarm of grasshopper looking Locusts descended upon me, I probably wouldn’t be so freaked out, but send a swarm of Cicadas at me and I’ll scream and run to the next city.
What I found interesting about these scary looking giant bugs is that they are really romanticized in history; such as Mexico, who calls it a name that refers to the creature that sings until it dies, which is rather sad. It is also a symbol for reincarnation and the end of summer. I might add that we just entered summer and so why the Cicadas are coming around deciding summer is ending is beyond me. They can go back home for another month.
Also… I can’t believe people eat these things.
If you don’t hear from me after tonight, you can assume that I have been overran by crazy looking giant black eyed bugs who are really loud. Stay safe!
