I am a big believer in moisturizing because it helps to provide a protective layer to shield skin, maintain moisture levels, supply nutrients to the skin and can improve skin quality. I also love finding new time saving beauty tips so this beauty trick is a new staple in my routine.
As the weather turns colder and skin becomes more dry, it’s even more important to get moisturizing in, but this is also the time I find myself doing it less and less.
It is important to apply moisturizer to damp skin because it helps to trap water in your surface cells, and keeps skin from looking dry and patchy. When skin is completely dry, moisturizer isn’t absorbed as effectively.
For most days I normally shower, pat my skin dry, and immediately apply moisturizer (or one of my favorite body oils). But with winter approaching, my once sun warmed bathroom that I looked forward to for relaxation and many of my beauty rituals has become a cold uninviting room that I like to spend as least amount of time in as possible.
Lately I have been reaching for my moisturizer to slather on while still in the shower. I rub it into the skin generously and let sit for a couple of minutes (usually while my conditioner is doing it’s thing).
If you use the same moisturizer or oils on your face as I do, you can also use this trick for your face. Now we are really multi-tasking!
Another benefit to this method is that when taken into a steamy shower there’s an aromatherapy effect that is very therapeutic. Instead of buying scented bath oils from the store I like to make my own by starting with oils like coconut, olive, or jojoba, and adding a few drops of my favorite essential oil. This way you can have a variety of scents to choose from that will suit your mood. For a relaxing shower I might add a few drops of lavender essential oil, and for an awakening shower I will use either a few drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil.
If anyone else has time-saving shower tips, we’d love to hear them!
