~I received a VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
After years of being chased around with a camera, Tot had decided he wanted to be the one to take pictures. More than that, he wanted to be able to sift through his photos like he does on Daddy’s Smartphone. This didn’t quite work with the little kid camera he had that wasn’t designed with smart features or even comparable photo quality. So when he was given the chance to try out the new VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch that had both a camera and a touchscreen gallery, he was sold. There couldn’t have been a Smartwatch designed more perfectly for kids than this.
The Kidizoom Smartwatch has a plethora of features. I’m going to go through most of them and share different aspects of the watch as well as the capabilities. First off, lets learn a little bit about how it works!
On the back of the watch is a small button that you can put in the ON or OFF position. This allows you a bit of control as well as saves battery power when it isn’t in use. In the ON position, you push the HOME button and the watch first asks you the Date/Time before going to the watch screen. Here you can choose from 50 different Digital and Analog Displays!
On the opposite side of the HOME button is the CAMERA button and the Micro USB connector port. The port is for when you are ready to transfer photos, videos or voice recordings and/or download games and displays from the VTech Learning Lodge.
The Camera has the ability to create photo frames for your photos and videos, use color filters and distortion effects! The 1.4in color touchscreen allows your child to really get an idea of what to shoot as well as allows them ample room to look through their shots.
The camera and video actually take pretty decent photos for a little ole thing! I was amazed at the quality for VTech! These are two unedited photos that I took of my son in typical afternoon daylight inside the house.
The video quality is just as similar and has great sound quality! It’s very easy to transfer the files over from the Smartwatch to your computer as well. You simply plug the USB cable and it will download the necessary application so you can move your photos/videos. This is also how you charge the Kidizoom!
The Voice Recorder is a whole lot of fun too as it has 5 voice changing effects!
There are 4 Games included:
- Super Detective
- Rotating Puzzle
- Finger Dance
- Time Master
The first 2 games help teach children problem solving skills and quick thinking. Finger Dance is more of a follow the leader style game where you push the colors that light up. Time Master is a learning application that helps teach your child how to tell the time!
Remember, you can download more games from the VTech Learning Lodge!
The two most important things for me were that the watch could take drops and was splash/sweat proof. This doesn’t mean that the watch can be submerged in water! Rather if your child happens to spill a little from the cub their drinking from on it or falls down the Kidizoom can take it.
Overall this is a really great watch for kids and has lots of features to keep them busy and having fun! For young ones it is a great way to learn to tell time and be able to take their own photos of the people they care about the most.
Or their toys! Whichever.
The Smartwatch also comes in 4 different colors: Green, White, Blue and Pink!
