My tot has been learning about ‘thankfulness’ at school. He had two projects to take home and work on with Mom & Dad and bring back to school these past few weeks. One of them was decorating a turkey, his is in the middle with the feathers and the macaroni feet. He named his turkey “Run, Turkey, Run!” The other project was to write on two feathers he cut out, what he was thankful for and they would go on the classrooms big turkey. He had a little practice at school with writing what he was thankful for and although the teachers have tried to persuade the preschoolers to write things like “Mom” or “Dad” or “Family”, they had their own ideas.
I thought… well it is cold outside…
So last night we were working on his project of writing what he was thankful for on the paper turkey feathers. It went something like this…
“What are you thankful for?”
“Okay… what do you like?”
“Hm. Okay, what makes you happy?”
“Daddy! That’s a good one, let’s write that down! Okay, what is something else that makes you happy?”
“Okay, we already have Daddy, what is something else?”
My husband had to prompt him to get Mommy on there, Daddy got on there twice alongside himself of course, though he said Daddy four times.
Today it made me feel a little better going to school and seeing the other kids ‘thankful’ feathers and at least realizing I wasn’t the only Mom saying, “Well what about Mommy?”
How about you? What are some things your children are thankful for this year?
