WORDGIRL VS. THE ENERGY MONSTER
ARRIVING ON DVD MAY 14
The Fourth DVD Released Featuring the Emmy Award®-Winning Animated Children’s Program
“WordGirl®” is the critically acclaimed and award winning animated series from Scholastic Media, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, that follows the life and super hero adventures of WordGirl as she fights crime and enriches vocabulary usage. In this new DVD, which includes three fun-filled learning adventures, WordGirl and her sidekick Captain Huggy Face fight the good fight against dastardly villains and bad vocabulary!
Big Sis is 4.5 years old and does not yet know how to read. With that said, I guess that is why I am glad she loves watching Word Girl so much. I honestly believe she is picking up on words as she watches. She will ask, “What’s that?” and then point out familiar words when she sees them when we are out and about. We are both huge fans of her sidekick, Huggy Face. I never feel guilty when I let Big Sis watch Word Girl since I find that the show is fun to watch while also piquing Big Sis’s interest with words at the same time.
DVD special features include interactive games, video shorts and coloring pages. Details about the episodes features on this DVD are below.
“Dinner or Consequences, Part 1”
Dr. Two Brains is stealing all of the city’s milk and using it – with help from the unusually talkative Energy Monster – to superpower his new ray and turn the whole city into cheese! It’s up to WordGirl to find the disappearing dairy and stop Dr. Two Brains even if it means missing her family feast and having to face the consequences.
“Dinner or Consequences, Part 2”
Becky has to rely on an old Botsford tradition – the family trial – to convince her family that she vanished from the feast for a good reason. But when the Energy Monster breaks Dr. Two Brains out of jail and the two head over to the Botsfords to take back a powerful invention, will Becky be able to prove her innocence and transform into WordGirl in time to stop the two super villains?
“Best Fan Club Meeting Ever”
TJ plans a meeting to divulge a secret about WordGirl to International WordGirl Fan Club members. However, when Tobey finds out that a secret about his love/nemesis will be revealed, he crashes the meeting with an eavesdropping robot and threatens to destroy the clubhouse. WordGirl has to spring into action to save the clubhouse and her fans!
“Day at the Museum”
Scoops takes Becky, Bob, and Violet to the museum to find inspiration for his news story for The Big City Times. When they hear a rumor about a haunted treasure, the team goes on a search – with The Butcher right behind! Can Scoops, Becky, Bob, and Violet find the treasure, evade The Butcher, and do it all in time for Scoops to keep his deadline?
The entire DVD has a running time of 50 minutes. You can also check out the PBS website for coloring pages, games and videos for your kids to enjoy. Big Sis loves the Word Girl/Miss Power Face-Off game. Of course I have to read off the words to her but she still loves playing. PBS offers so many free games on their site and I love picking out games to match Big Sis’s favorite PBS shows. I don’t let her on the computer very much so when I sit her in my lap for some Word Girl Games she gets all excited and maybe learns a new word or two along the way.
